Prateik Babbar Biography

Prateik Babbar is a Bollywood actor of present times who has debuted Bollywood with Abbas Tyagewala’s movie ‘Jaane tu ya jaane na’. He did the role of elder brother of Genelia de’ souza in the movie. He is the son of Veteran actor and parliamentarian Raj Babbar and late actress of 1980’s Smita Patel. His mother died within a few days after his birth due to post partum complications. His other movies include Dhobi ghat, Dum maro dum, Aarakshan, My name pinto and Ekk deewana tha. Among those movies, his role as a common man ‘Munna’ in the movie Dhobi ghat is noted most. He did a brilliant performance in this movie. His silent role in his debut movie was also well appreciated and the movie was a blockbuster of 2008.

Raj Babbar married Smita Patel before giving divorce to his first wife. He had two children from that marriage too. So, the couple faced a lot of oppositions. Earlier they were paired in many offbeat Hindi movies of 1980’s. But Smita Patel died soon after delivering Prateik Babbar and Raj Babbar returned back to his first family. For this reason, there has always been a tension between father and son.

He was noted by Aamir Khan and gave him a role in his production movie – Jaane tu ya jaane na. Later in the directorial venture of his wife Kiran Rao, he was given a meaty role. He became a part of multi-star cast movies Dum maro dum and Aarakshan. Dum maro dum was a big flop while Aarakshan was a successful movie. Prateik Babbar did the role of a drug smuggler in the movie ‘Dum maro dum’ where he is caught by the cop Abhishek Bachchan. Prateik Babbar did the role of Sushanth Seth in Prakash Jha’s movie – Aarakshan. This movie is based on reservation of OBC and political turn around associated with it.

His next movie was Sanjeev Leela Bansali’s production venture – My friend Pinto. He was casted opposite Kalki Koechlin and the movie was a disaster at box office. He did the role of an artist Pinto in the movie. When the Tamil blockbuster Vinnethaandi varuvaya was remade to Hindi, he was casted as hero. Despite being a good story and good opportunity to exhibit his talent, he failed in displaying it and the movie too, flopped at box office. Only the music of A.R.Rehman and the brief romance of Prateik with its heroine Amy Jackson remained in the memory of audience.
