Praneet Bhatt Biography

Praneet Bhat is a popular actor of Hindi soaps, who has portrayed several mythological historical figures on mini screen. His role as Shakuni in epic TV series Mahabharat (2013–2014) earned him immense fame and popularity. He was also seen playing the character role of Kasabi Kalandar Lahori in the popular historic series – Razia Sultan, on newly started &TV of ZEE television network. In 2014 he participated the celebrity reality show on Colors Television - Bigg Boss 8. A model turned actor he is associated with television since 2004, and mostly recently in 2015 November got married to his longtime girlfriend, Kanchan Sharma.

 

Praneet Bhat was born on 26 September 1980. He currently resides in Mumbai. He completed Mechanical Engineering from K.K. Wagh Engineering College, and later worked with Wipro for a while before he moved to modelling full time. Bhat shifted to Mumbai in 2002 where he began his career as a model and in 2004, started his television career with the show, Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi. He portrayed the character of Shefan in the daily soap.

 

Later he went on to appear in popular soaps and episodic shows like Hotel Kingston, Arslaan, Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai, Geet, Dill mill gayye, Suvreen Guggal – Topper of The Year, Shhh..Phir Koi Hai and Kaajjal. Over the years he has portrayed both negative and positive character roles and received 2014 Indian Telly Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role, for the remarkable role of Shakuni he played in Mahabharata. It’s the most popular role he played till now. This actor has been deeply involved with theatre while simultaneously doing TV shows. The actor says, experience in theatre is like playing test cricket to become a class player, which definitely gives an edge over others always when it comes to acting.

 

For the memorable role of Shakuni, he learnt martial arts, the art of war, rode horses etc and he even grew up beard. He idolized Gufi Paintal who portrayed the role for the first time on Indian television and Praneet says he is a great fan of Gufi Paintal, since he grew up watching BR Chopra's Mahabharata since childhood.
