Pramod Moutho Biography

Pramod Moutho is a Bollywood actor, most known for portraying negative roles. He portrayed the highly acclaimed negative role of Karishma Kapoor's Uncle in 1996 blockbuster, Raja Hindustani. He appears in the role of crooked fellow in most of his roles and has also handled some comic roles. Khalnayak (1993), Dilwale (1994), Gadar (2001) and Jodhaa Akbar (2008) are other noted roles. Apart from 120 movies he acted till now, he has also appeared in a few television serials like Maan Rahe Tera Pitaah and Rab ne bana di ishq.

 

His real name is Pramod Sharma and he belonged to a Punjabi Brahmin family from Kapurthala. He used to play mouth organ during his college days and was an expert to play any tune in those days. Thus ‘Moutho’ tag got added to his name. His entrance to the world was just co-incidence. In 1972, during the National Youth Festival, he had to perform on stage for a play when one of the actors backed it. This incident started the acting career of this artist. Later he joined amateur plays and finally Repertory of NSD, Delhi as a stage artist. He was the first non-NSD trained actor who did plays for the Repertory. He was successfully associated with NSD for about 8 years, before he moved out in 1989.

 

He reached Mumbai in 1989 in search of new opportunities. Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi offered him the role of Mahamantri Shaktar in “Chanakya”, which proved to be the major break of his acting career. In 1992, he played a bit role in ‘Daddy’. Khalnayak was his major Bollywood break and it was a life changing moment when he got selected.
