Prakash Belawadi Biography

Prakash Belawadi is a National award winning theatre and media personality, who co-founded the Centre for Film and Drama, and also Suchitra School of Cinema and Dramatic Arts, both in 2012. Also known as an activist and a journalist, he has also acted in a few films and television shows. He played the supporting role of George Kutty in the biggest Bollywood hit of 2016 – Air Lift. Known for his association with offbeat movies, he also played supporting roles in critically acclaimed Bollywood films - Madras Café, Talvar and Wazir. He is also associated with Kannada cinema as an actor. He has directed one movie too – English film, Stumble which won the Indian National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English in 2003.

He is a native of Bangalore, Karnataka. He was born into a family of theatre artistes. His father, Make-up Nani was associated with Kannada films and theater as an actor and makeup artist. His mother, Bhargavi is also a theater artist. All his three siblings are involved with theatre. Prakash completed Mechanical Engineering in 1983. Yet he got involved with the world of theatre and media. He is a famous theater director and actor. In 2003, he directed National award winning feature film – Stumble, which starred Ananth Nag and Suhasini Mani Ratnam in lead roles.

He launched the Suchitra School of Cinema and Dramatic Arts at the Suchitra Cinema and Cultural Academy campus in Bangalore in 2012. The school has diploma courses on filmmaking and acting. He directed several documentary films and the Kannada TV serials – Garva (2001) and Illiruvudu Summane (2008). He is also known for his open support to Narendra Modi. Though he is not a disciplined journalist or writer, he finds time to write something.
