Pragathi (south Indian Actress) Biography

Pragathi is a noted south Indian actress from Hyderabad known for playing supporting roles. She works in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam movies. Yet she predominantly appears in Telugu films. Now a senior artist of Telugu film industry, she is the first choice of directors for mother or aunt’s roles. K. Bhagyaraj gave her the first break to films, and currently she is associated with Television shows also.

Pragathi was born and brought up in Hyderabad of present day Telangana. She belonged to a middle class family. She lost her father at a young age. Unexpected death of her father led to a financial crisis in the family. To financially support the family she started off her career as a dubbing artist for cartoons. While she was active in dubbing field, she got her first offer to modelling through one of the friends of her father. She modeled for Mysore Silk Palace. Director K. Bhagyaraj got impressed with her after watching the ad and gave her first break to films. ’ Veetla Visheshanga’ was her debut flick. This Tamil flick was also released in Telugu titled, ‘Gowramma Nee Mogudevaramma’. Her first shot was pictured in a hospital.  

Though she belongs to a non-filmy background and had no experience in acting before her debut film, she never faced difficulties to face camera. In fact she loved acting every time she faced camera. After her debut flick, she got offers from Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu language films and she accepted them all. She never hesitated to accept any roles, and now she is an established character artist of south Indian screen. After her marriage she took a small break from films and when she returned, she became active in television. She took a break of three years from the industry soon after marriage.
