Pradeep Sharma Biography

Pradeep Sharma is an encounter specialist and police officer from Mumbai, who is responsible for the death of 312 alleged criminals in the city. In 2008 he was dismissed from police service on charges of corruption, but was later re-installed in 2017 as he was not found guilty. He was also accused charges in the 2006 Lakhan Bhaiyya encounter case, and he was acquitted in 2013. In popular culture, a Marathi film titled Rege was released in 2014, which recorded the real life incidents of encounter specialists, and his role was played by filmmaker-actor Mahesh Manjrekar.

 

Pradeep Sharma hails from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, and he was born in the year 1961. His father worked as an English professor in Dule. Pradeep completed his schooling and higher education in Dule, where his father worked as faculty. He joined the State Police Service in 1983 as a sub-inspector, and was first posted to the Mahim police station in Mumbai. Since he was transferred to special crime branch, Juhu he rose to fame in a short interval of time, and earned promotions. He headed the police stations in other suburbs of Mumbai, and later became a senior Inspector in the crime intelligence unit of the Mumbai police.

 

He served Mumbai police for long 25 years, and headed many successful encounters. He fell into the trap of false Lakhan Bhaiyya encounter case in 2006, and returned to service in 2013. By that time he already killed 113 underworld gangsters. He was ousted from the police force as he was allegedly in touch with the underworld. Sharma transferred to Thane Police Commissioner office after that. He is nicknamed "Bombay's Dirty Harry."
