Pradeep Kumar (singer) Biography

Pradeep Kumar is a playback singer and music director who earned popularity through Tamil films. He began his career as a Carnatic musician, and with 2010, he collaborated with music artists of film industry, and later entered cine world. His early association was with composers Santhosh Narayanan and Sean Roldan, with whom he frequently associated with. He composed music for2014 film Meine Pyar Kiya and also 2017 film, Meyaadha Maan where he composed two singles. As a playback singer he is regularly associated with Tamil film industry since 2012 and rendered his voice for several chartbuster hits. He received Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer – Tamil for the song, "Aagayam Theepiditha" from Madras.

His birth name is Pradeep Kumar Vijayakumar. His father is a police inspector father and mother, a music teacher of Carnatic music. His childhood days were spent in Trichy where he completed his school education. He was initiated to the world of music by his mother who taught music to students. His mother Lalitha Vijayakumar was introduced to film music through 36 Vayathinile where she sang "Rasathi" song. Pradeep later took music lessons from J. Venkataraman.

Pradeep joined his engineering studies in Thanjavur, but dropped out to pursue a career in music. He instead pursued a diploma course in audio engineering. In 2003, Pradeep Kumar visited Chennai to participate in a competition conducted by the music studio, Carnatica. On their insistence he stayed there and his parents joined him later. He performed Carnatic music for live concerts in Chennai and other places.

He learnt western music while working under Augustin Paul, and also worked as an audio engineer for four years. He met composer Santhosh Narayanan at Trichy when he was 18, and later the composer gave him some of his career best songs. He also gave Pradeep the first break through 2012 film, Attakathi. As a playback singer, Pradeep sang for the popular movies, Kabali, Pizza, Jigarthanda, Madras, Cuckoo, Irudhi Suttru etc.
