Poonam Sinha Biography

Poonam Sinha is a former actress of Bollywood 1960s and 1970s, better known by the screen name Komal. She is the wife of famous film actor, Shatrughan Sinha and the mother of actors - Sonakshi Sinha and Luv Sinha. She has played a few character roles onscreen before she settled with her marriage with Shatrughan in 1980. Credited with name Komal on Bollywood screen, some of her noted performances include - Jigri Dost (1968), Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969), Aag Aur Daag (1970), Sabak (1973), Shaitaan (1974), Dil Diwana (1974) and Dream Girl (1977). She returned to big screen with Shobana starrer Mitr, My Friend in 2002 and played the role of Hrithik Roshan’s mother in Jodha Akbar (2008).

Her real name is Poonam Chandiramani and she was born in Hyderabad on 3 November 1949. Poonam is an ex-model, who has been crowned Miss India in the 1960s. She entered Bollywood screen in the late 1960s and played supporting roles. She acted with Shatrughan Sinha in the movie Sabak (1973). She was active in Bollywood till her marriage with Sinha in 1980. The couple had three children. Twin boys were born to them in 1983 and Sonakshi Sinha in 1987. So Poonam left the film world to raise her kids.

She stood as the strong pillar behind Shatrughan Sinha’s success in movies and politics and raised her kids as well. Sonakshi Sinha is now one of the leading actresses of Bollywood and her son Luv Sinha has also debut Bollywood though not successful. She has also produced two movies – including Shatrughan Sinha starrer Aaj Phir Jine Ki Tamanna Hai with Rekha playing female lead.
