Ponnamma Babu Biography

Ponnamma Babu is a noted character artist in Malayalam cinema at present who is known for portraying satire roles. In the year 2013, 19 movies were released which include hits like Romans, Pullipuli, Emmanuvel, Honey bee, Nadodi mannan and Sringara velam. Rather than being typecasted as mother-kind of roles, she loves to perform as a comedian as well as challenging ones. She is married to noted theatre director, Babu and has three children. Her daughter Pinky has debut Malayalam screen most recently in the movie, Mr. Pavanayi 99.99

Ponnamma belongs to Erattupetta of Pala and was born in a middle class family. Her parents are Mathai and Achamma. She studied at St. George school, Erattupetta and has also trained in Bharatnatyam and Mohiniyattam. At the age of 15, she became active in theatre. She played the role of a dancer in her first play. She fell in love with theatre director Babu and very soon got married. At that time, she has already done photo shoot for Bhadran’s Ente mohangal poovaninju. She was to play the lead role opposite Shankar. In between she got married to Babu and she decided to say good bye to acting field. Thus the role went to actress Menaka and the movie became one of the most noted romantic classics of 1980’s, which was later made to Tamil as well.

After a short break she reached film industry through the movie, Padanayakan where she played wife’s role of Rajan. P. Dev. Though she completed 22 years in film field, it’s only most recently she got noticed. She is known for portraying humorous roles at present.
