Ponnam Prabhakar Goud Biography

Ponnam Prabhakar Goud is an Indian politician and former parliamentarian from Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh. He is a member of Indian National Congress who currently serves as the working President of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee. He was a member of 15th Lok Sabha representing Karimnagar constituency of Andhra Pradesh, and was one of the youngest MPs from the same constituency for many years. He was also the youngest Member of Parliament in 15th Lok Sabha from Telangana Region. He was a Congress MP from 2009 to 2014 winning the elections with a thumping majority of more than 50,000 votes.

Ponnam Prabhakar has started his journey as a student activist. He was born on 8 May 1967 in Karimnagar, a town located in the Jagtial district of Telangana. He is married to Manjula Ponnam and the couple has two children. The family is now settled in Hyderabad city. He was quite active in student politics during his college days and also served as the Union President of SRR Government Degree and PG College during 1987-1988. He was the district General Secretary of National Student's Union of India during 1987 – 1989. He also held many prominent positions as a youth leader of Congress in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He also served as NSUI State President during 1992 – 1998 and 1999 – 2002. By then he had already turned a very popular youth leader with a promising political career ahead. He served as General Secretary for Youth Congress, and also took care of Media co-ordination responsibilities within regional politics of INC. He got elected to Lok Sabha for the first time in 2009, and also participated in Telangana agitation, demanding statehood.
