Plabita Borthakur Biography

Plabita Borthakur is a film actress associated with Bollywood, best known for playing one among four protagonists of Alankrita Shrivastava’s much talked and controversial film, Lipstick Under My Burkha. The movie which included an ensemble star cast of Ratna Pathak, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in key roles and Sushant Singh, Vikrant Massey, Shashank Arora, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi and Jagat Singh Solanki in supportive roles. The movie showcased at several international film festivals received rave reviews from critics and was a box office hit. Apart from a film actress, Plabita is a singer and an artist too. She was seen in a small role as Jaggu's sister in Rajkumar Hirani’s PK.

 

Plabita Borthakur was born in 1989 in Assam. Duliajan of Dibrugarh district is her hometown. Her father Probeen Borthakur is a classical singer and teacher, while her mother is a writer and poet. She has two elder sisters who work in film industry. She was brought up in her hometown and later the family relocated to Mumbai. She did her college studies at Jai Hind College, Mumbai and doing her college days she started taking ad assignments. She also owned a music band, Manu and Chow, where she performed as an artist.

 

She got opportunity to work in films for the first time in 2014, in a bit role as Anushka Sharma's sister in blockbuster PK. She got big break through Lipstick Under My Burkha, where she played one among the 4 central characters of the film. The film shown at various film festivals in 2016, faced obstacles from sensor board, and finally got theatric release in 2017. Currently she is working on the film, Waah Zindagi, where she plays lead role opposite Naveen Kasturia. The movie is directed by Dinesh Yadav.
