Pattukkottai Prabakar Biography

Pattukkottai Prabakar is a versatile writer from Tamil literature at present times. He is best known for writing crime thriller and detective novels. He also writes for Tamil films and television. Bharath Susila, Kanavugal ilavasam, Irandu vari kaviyam etc are among his major books. He co-scripted the films - Samurai, Jeyam Kondan, Imaikka nodigal, Naan avan illai, Kandaen Kadhalai etc. Some of his TV scripts include Gopuram, Varam and Paramapadham. He has penned 250 short stories, 300 novels, 85 serial stories, apart from many columns. Pattukottai Prabakar is a very influential writer of present times, and also mentioned as King of crime novels. He has written more than 15 novels with only dialogues and no narration.

Pattukkottai Prabakar hails from Pattukkottai, Tamil Nadu. He added ‘Pattukkottai’ tag to his name. Prabakar was born to V. Radhakrishnan and R. Chandra on July 30, 1958. He completed his master’s degree from Trichy. After that he became a full-time writer. He published his first story in Ananda Vikatan. Since then, in a career spanning to more than four decades, he has contributed immense quantity of works in crime thriller & investigation genre. Bharath Susila Detective series is one of his most popular serialized works belonging to this genre. A monthly magazine named ‘A novel time’ used to publish his works only.  

Apart from his association with crime novels and short stories, he had a brief stint in cinema and television too, where he scripted a few projects from both. He has also worked as an assistant director in film industry under filmmaker-actor, Bhakyaraj. He has also worked for Paramapadham, the first Tamil soap telecasted in Doordarshan in the 1990s. Maram and Kanavugal Ilavasam are among his works, which form a part of academic syllabus.
