Pattanam Rasheed Biography

Pattanam Rasheed is a National award winning makeup artist of Malayalam cinema. He won the national award for doing makeup of Mohanlal for the movie Paradesi in 2007. He is a recipient of Kerala state awards five times - Aadharam (1992), Guru (1997), Kunjikoonan (2002), Anandabhadram (2005) and Yugapurushan (2010). He is one of the most prominent and experienced makeup artists of Malayalam cinema in the past 2 decades. He has also worked in a few Hindi and Tamil movies.

Rasheed has completed 25 years in Malayalam film industry. For Rasheed the human body is a canvas and he does wonders on it. An elderly woman in ‘Chachi 420,’ is also an acclaimed work of Rasheed and still regarded as the best work in Bollywood to makeup a man to a woman. Kamal Hassan looks so wonderful in the makeup of an old woman. The original makeup for the Tamil film was done by Michael Westmore. Priyadarshan’s National award winning Kanchivaram is also another noted work.  

He hailed from a music family and for the same reason to become a make-up artiste never crossed Rasheed’s mind. His brother was an artist of amateur drama and it was he, who opened new doors to Rasheed. He started off as an assistant with several makeup artists and made his debut with Mohanlal starrer Onnu Muthal Poojyam Vare in 1986. But his first acclaimed work was T.V. Chandran’s ‘Ponthan Mada, which was well appreciated for his wonderful work. Mammootty won national award for the second time for this wonderful role. There was no turning back after that and Rasheed went on to become one of the leading makeup artists of Malayalam cinema. In his opinion, not even a single project which has given him 100% satisfaction. In fact, he is learning something new after each work.
