Padmini Prakash Biography

Padmini Prakash is a television news anchor from Tamil Nadu. She is the first transgender TV anchor recruited in India and currently works with Lotus News, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. She is 31 years old. She has faced a lot of discrimination in the society throughout her life and was disowned by her family as well. Formerly she has been an actress and has also worked in a few Television serials before her new Avatar as TV anchor. In April 2014, India's Supreme Court recognised transgender as a legal third gender – one of the landmark judgments made by Indian courts regarding this delicate matter. Rose Venkatesan is the first transgender to become a television talk show host.  

 

She is currently a popular face of Tamil television and within one month of her join she has been promoted to news reader post at 7pm News bulletin. The channel chairman was convinced by her potential as a news anchor before offering her the new role. She read news headline at 7 pm on August 14th, 2014 making a new beginning. She read out the day's headlines from a teleprompter becoming India’s first transgender TV news reader. She currently focuses on her diction so as to minimize errors while reading and to easily connect with viewers.

 

Earlier she has raised her voice against the stigma and discrimination shown by the society towards the minor sexual community and has faced serious oppositions also. She grew up in RS Puram in Coimbatore and cut all relations from her family while studying 1st year B. Com. She was dropped out of college also. Then she travelled across the state and started her career as a Bharatnatyam instructor. She won several transgender beauty contests and currently stays in Coimbatore with her life partner.
