Padmasree Warrior Biography

Padmasree Warrior is the Chief Technology Officer of Cisco Systems. She worked as the CTO of Motorola Inc. before joining Cisco Systems. She belongs to a Malayali family and was brought up in the city of Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh in India. She studied at Children’s Montessori School and Maris Stella College in Vijayawada. She got her graduation in chemical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi in the year 1982 and obtained her masters’ degree in chemical engineering at Cornell University. She is serving as an advisory board member at both these institutions.

 

She joined Motorola in 1984 and worked there for twenty three years. She became the Chief Technology Officer of its Semiconductor Products Sector. This is a Freescale Semiconductor. She became the first female executive of the company and in 2005 she was promoted to the position of Executive Vice-President. She left Motorola on 4th December 2007 to join Cisco Systems. She married Mohandas Warrior and has one son Karna Warrior.

 

She got the place of one of the four rising stars in the Most Powerful Women list of Fortune Magazine. This also said that she is one of the 10 highest paid young and powerful ladies. She was ranked as the 11th Most Influential Global Indian by The Economic Times in 2005. She received the Women Elevating Science and Technology award from the Working Woman Magazine in the year 2001. She was one among the six women to receive this. American Immigration Law Foundation recognized her achievements in 2003.

 

She received Distinguished Alumni Award by the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. When she was working with Motorola as its CTO, she received 2004 National Medal of Technology by the then President of United States, George W. Bush. In 2007, she received honorary doctorate degree by the Polytechnic University, New York.

 

She serves on the boards of Singapore Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Chicago’s Joffrey Ballet and Museum of Science and Industry and as the mentor of the State Department’s International Women Leaders Mentoring Partnership.
