Padmapriya (old Movie Actress) Biography

Padmapriya was a famous south Indian actress who appeared in all south Indian language films in the 1970s and 1980s. She predominantly worked in Kannada and Tamil language films, and has played female lead with almost all leading south Indian heroes of 1970s and 1980s. She also played parallel lead and supporting roles. Some of her popular Tamil movies include - Aayiram Jenmangal, Vaazhnthu Kaattugiren, Kuppathu Raja, Vaira Nenjam, Mohana Punnagai, Madhuraiyai Meetta Sundharapandiyan etc. Her roles in Kannada films - Thayige Thakka Maga, Shankar Guru, Bangarada Gudi, Baadada Hoo, Narada Vijaya, Operation Diamond Racket and Oorige Upakari also became popular. She stayed at career peak during the time period, 1975-1981. She passed away in 1997, and did her last movie in 1995.

Padmapriya was born and brought up in Karnataka. Kannada was her mother tongue. Yet she spoke fluent in other south Indian languages - Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, and also acted in all the four south Indian language films. She got married at her career peak in 1983, and had a daughter in her wedlock with Srinivasan. But she didn’t have a happy married life, and couple legally divorced. She also had some health issues later, and she had to stay away from films for this reason. She had an early death in 1997 due to heart related issues as well as kidney problems.

As a film actress she was first seen in Kannada movie, Malathi Madhavain 1972. However her real debut happened in 1975. Karotti Kannan in 1975 marked her Tamil debut and her first Kannada movie, Bangarada Gudi got released the following year. She played parallel lead in this film, and from there on, she stayed active in the industry till mid-1980s, playing lead and supporting roles. Mani Koya Kurup in 1979 was her first Malayalam film, for which she played a supporting role. She acted in two Telugu movies too.
