P. L. Thenappan Biography

P. L. Thenappan is a film producer associated with Tamil film industry since late 1990s. He has financed for movies starring many big stars of the industry like Kamal Hassan, Mammootty, Srikanth & Prithviraj. As a film producer, he is best known for the movies, Kana Kandaen, Vallavan, Durai, Peranbu, Panchathantiram, Pammal K Sambantham etc. He produced three Kamal Hassan comedies in a row since late 1990s – Kathala Kathala, Pammal K Sambantham and Panchathantiram. He also served as the co-producer for megastar movies – Tenali and Padayappa. He also did brief roles in a couple of movies too. He owns the film production company, Sri Rajlakshmi Film (P) Ltd.

P. L. Thenappan has been associated with Tamil film industry since 1980s in film production department. In the 1990s he worked as production manager and production executive, before he debut as film producer through 1998 flick, Kathala Kathala, starring Kamal Hassan and Prabhudeva. However this comedy flick was a flop. Since then he has produced more than 17 films and introduced many artists and technicians to film field. In 20012 he produced one Malayalam film, Punar Jani which marked the directorial debut of Major Ravi and acting debut of Mohanlal’s son Pranav Mohanlal. He also serves as a senior office bearer of the Tamil Nadu Films Producers Council.

He launched his own film production company, Sri Rajlakshmi Films in 2002, and has produced 10 films under this banner. Pammal K Sambantham starring Kamal Hassan was the first one. His production venture Tamil film Ayyanar starred Aadhi and Meera Nandhan. The director known for promoting young talents, he makes big budget films as well. His recent film starring Mammooty caught camera attention a lot. The movie titled, Peranbu starred Anjali Ameer, a transgender woman in one of the lead female roles, for the first time in south Indian cinema.
