P. K. Rajasekharan Biography

Dr. P. K. Rajasekharan is a noted literary critic, journalist, editor and scholar in Malayalam literature at present. He is a recipient of Kerala Sahitya Academy Award for criticism. He won the award for his book - Pitrukhadikaaram, a literary work on the famous book - O.V. Vijayante kalayum darshanavum. In the year 2000, his book Andhanaya Daivam: Malayala Novelinte Nooru Varshangal earned Vilasini Award instituted by Kerala Sahitya Academy. In 2014 he along with Dr. P. Venugopalan, published a well-accepted research finding of one of the earliest novels of Malayalam literature – Indulekha. It’s regarded as an outstanding contribution to Malayalam.

Through his research works he found that Malayalam readers have been reading different edited version of the novel over the years and last few pages of the book is not available in the publications after the year 1890, where the author emphasized on women empowerment and English education to be given to them. But those pages are available in the English translation of the same work, done by S.W. Dumergue. He also found that many of the pages have been chopped in the recent versions too. He published these research findings in Mathrubhumi Weekly.

He was born on February 21, 1966 in Karippuru of Thiruvananthapuram district. He completed his graduation and PG from University College, Thiruvananthapuram, followed by Ph.D. from the University of Kerala. Pitrukhadikaaram, Andhanaya Daivam: Malayala Novelinte Nooru Varshangal, Andhanaya Daivam, Ekantha Nagarangal, Vaakkinte Moonnaam Kara etc are some of his major works, mostly belonging to literary criticism. Panthalam Kerala Varma Media Award, State Bank of Travancore Literary Award for criticism, Thoppil Ravi award, Dr. K. Godavarma Memorial Price, C.B. Kumar Endowment award etc are the major honours received by him. A journalist by profession he currently serves as the news editor of Mathrubhumi newspaper.
