Nrisingha Prasad Bhaduri Biography

Nrisingha Prasad Bhaduri is a noted writer associated with Bengali language. He is quite popular as an Indologist, Scholar and a specialist of Indian epics and Puranas. Since 2012, he is working on a large encyclopaedia project on Mahabharata and Ramayana, and it took almost one decade to conceptualize it. The work is believed to challenge many long-held beliefs about the epics and was expected to complete by 2015. He has also authored numerous works in Bengali, including Balmikir Ram O Ramayan, Arjun o Draupadi, Krishna, Kunti Ebong Kaunteyo etc. Through his book, Dandaniti Bhaduri dealt with the subject of politics in medieval India.

Born on 23 November 1950 in Pabna of present day Bangladesh, he completed his education in Kolkata and was a reader of Sanskrit at Gurudas College, Kolkata till his retirement in 2010. A noted scholar, he is well-verse in Hindu epics – Ramayana and Mahabharata, and is popular for simple interpretations of its tales. He writes articles on Hinduism in many leading Bengali magazines. Katha Amrita Saman published in Sangbad Pratidin's Sunday supplement is among his noted columns. Currently he writes for the magazine - Ei samay. He started publishing works since late 1980s and has also written books in English. Mystery Plays in Sanskrit published in 2013 is one such.

This renowned Sanskrit scholar is currently concentrated on the work of "Encyclopedia of Puranas” since 2010 for Sahitya Samsad and Netaji Subhas Institute of Asian Studies. The work is undergoing in Kolkata and a lot of the researches on ancient scriptures were also done in recent times. Katha Amritosoman, ‘Mahabharat: Neeti, Aneeti, Durniti’, Nana Charcha and Asadukti Halahal are some of his published books in the recent times.
