Nitinbhai Patel Biography

Nitinbhai Patel is an Indian politician from the state of Gujarat, who currently serves the position of Deputy Chief Minister of the state. He also holds the portfolios - Health, Medical Education, Family Welfare, Road and Building and Capital Project. As a cabinet minister, he earlier held the posts of Water Supply, Water Resources, Urban Development and Urban Housing. He served the term of 5 years representing Mehsana in state assembly during 2012-2017 period, and was appointed Deputy Chief Minister on August 5, 2016 in Vijay Rupani’s cabinet. Patel represents Bharatiya Janata Party.

Nitinbhai Ratilal Patel was born on 22 June 1956 in Visnagar, Bombay State of British India. He worked in the cotton and oil industry, before joining politics. He rose to many prominent positions within state politics, and currently serves as Deputy Chief Minister since 2016. He is one of the most influential BJP leaders in Gujarat state politics. He remained a member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly during 1990–95, 1995–97, 1998-2002 and 2012-2017. Within party politics, he held many prominent positions such as a committee member of Party treasury, Government Assurances, Public Undertakings etc.

He got elected to state assembly for the first time in 1990, and was assigned a portfolio for the first time in 1995 when he was given Health and Family Welfare. During 1998–99, he held the power of Agriculture, Small and Medium Irrigation Schemes. He also held different portfolios related to agriculture and irrigation later, whenever he was a member of assembly. He is married to Sulochanaben Patel and the couple has two children - Jaimin Patel and Sunny Patel. Currently the family resides in Ahmedabad.
