Nirupama Rajendra Biography

Nirupama Rajendra is an Indian classical dancer who performs Bharathnatyam and Kathak dance forms. She along with her husband Rajendra performs in dance festivals and on different cultural platforms to promote the art. The couple hails from Bangalore, Karnataka. They own a dance school, Abhinava Dance Company, where they teach both Bharathnatyam and Kathak. They have been regular in their performances, with extensive tours to USA, Canada and Europe, apart from performing on Doordarshan, where they are top rated artists.

 

Nirupama and Rajendra, a dynamic and spellbinding dancing couple from Bangalore has created a wave of excitement on the Indian dance scene in the recent times. Abhinava Dance Company is one of the well-established dance schools in India. The duo has created a niche of their own through innovation, creativity, enthusiasm and imagination to existing classical dance form. Their choreographed works are deep rooted in tradition.

 

Nirupama started loving dance forms at the age of three. She enjoyed it initially and started lessons at the age of 5. She loved moving to music, and created her own dance bits. She was first introduced to Bharathnatyam, and then Kathak. She got married to Rajendra, who comes from Prabhath, a strong traditional family of Harikatha with deep interests in music and Sanskrit. It is this art form which made them love each other and they later got married.

 

Her every choreographed work is a masterpiece, with featuring an extraordinary range of creative expressions. They have also done some contemporary fusion forms since year 2001. In 1998, Nirupama was titled Natya Mayuri by government of Karnataka, and the duo was awarded with Karnataka Kalashree Award in 2011.
