Ninong Ering Biography

Ninong Ering is an Indian politician and parliamentarian. He represents Arunachal East constituency in Lok Sabha, and is associated with Indian National Congress. In 2009, he was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha and got re-elected to 16th Lok Sabha from the same constituency in 2014. He remained a prominent congress leader of Arunachal Pradesh state politics. He served as Deputy Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly during 2002-2004. Prior to being assigned the post of Deputy Speaker, he served as a cabinet minister.

 

Ninong was born on 1 March 1959 in East Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh. He is the son of Daying Ering, a politician and Odam Ering. His father Daying Ering is known for his efforts as the chairman of the Ering Commission which deeply influenced the Panchayati Raj system. Ninong is married to Yarok Ering since 1979 and the couple has two kids. Ninong has been quite active in regional politics before he joined national stream. He contested state assembly elections for the first time in 1990 as an independent candidate, and won it from Pasighat East constituency. But in the next state elections in 1995, he lost his seat to Congress candidate. He regained the seat in 1999 state assembly elections, and also earned a position in state cabinet. He was promoted to Deputy Speaker in 2002.

 

In 2014, he contested Lok Sabha elections and joined Lower house. As a leader, he is known for put forwarding The Menstruation Benefit Bill in 2017, which proposed that women working in the public and private sectors get two days of paid menstrual leave every month. The bill is still in debate, and has not been forwarded yet.
