Nilesh Cabral Biography

Nilesh Cabral is an Indian politician from the state of Goa. He also serves as a cabinet minister of Goa at present, holding the portfolio – Power and Non-Conventional Energy since 24 September 2018. He also holds the portfolios - Law & Judiciary and Legislative Affairs. He is an engineer by profession, who got into politics. He also serves as President, Goa Chess Association since June 2017. He resigned as Chairman Goa Tourism Development Corporation soon after he became the power minister of Goa. He served as the Chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation during April 2017 – 7 November 2018 and 24 April 2012 – 9 January 2017.

Now he is serving his second term as MLA. He belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party. Nilesh Cabral was born on 10 July 1972 in Curchorem, Goa. Cabral earned a Diploma in Minining and Mine Surveying from the Government Polytechnic, Panaji in 1992, after which he started his professional career as an engineer. He is also a transport contractor as well as barge owner, who owns several trucks and earth moving machine.

He got in active politics only in 2012 associated with Bharatiya Janata Party. Yet he had political links while he was busy in his business. He was a close confidante of Shyam Satardekar, and also campaigned for him in 2007 elections. However, thick friends drifted apart because of differences between the two.

Cabral successfully contested the 2012 Goa Legislative Assembly election from Curchorem representing Bharatiya Janata Party, and he defeated his former friend and sitting MLA Shyam Satardekar for whom he campaigned in the previous elections. Cabral was appointed the Chairman of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation soon after his maiden win, and it also made him a close confidante and leader of RSS.
