Nilanjana Sharma Biography

Nilanjana Sharma is a noted actress associated with Bengali cinema and television. She is the daughter of legendary Bengali actress, Anjana Bhowmick who has been successfully paired with Bengali superstar Uttam Kumar for many movies such as “Chowringhee”, "Kokhono Megh", "Nayika Sambad", "Roudra Chhaya", "Raj Drohi" etc. Her younger sister Chandana Sharma is also a Bengali actress. Nilanjana is married to noted Bengali actor Jishu Sen Gupta. Her father Anil Sharma is a Navy Officer. Nilanjana played the female lead in the popular TV series, Hip Hip Hurray aired on ZEE TV.

 

She was born in Mumbai on 21 February 1972. She made her film debut with Subrata Sen's Swapner Feriwala released in 2002. This Bengali film also starred Subrata Dutta and Ferdous Ahmed in pivot roles. Nilanjana played lead heroine role. The movie also marked the debut of Subrat Dutta.Nilanjana received BFJA-Most Promising Actress Award for her memorable performance in the debut film. She later acted in Bengali films - Teen Ekke Teen (2006) and Aamra (2007). She was paired with Jisshu Sengupta for Aamra released in 2007. Parambrata Chatterjee also played a pivot role in the film.

 

Among her television roles, she is best known for playing the female protagonist Mona in the TV series - Hip Hip Hurray. The popular show aired on ZEE TV was directed by Nupur Asthana, and aired during the period 1998 to 2001. The show concentrates on the 12th grade students at the DeNobili High School, their stories, adventures and relationships. She also appeared in the popular TV series, Rishtey. Jaaneman Jaaneman and Lekin Woh Sach Tha are other noted television works.
