Nilanjana Roy Biography

Nilanjana Roy is a writer, journalist and literary critic from Kolkata. She is the author of the book - 'The Wildings', which won the Shakti Bhatt First Book Award. The book was also shortlisted in Tata Literature First Book Award (2012), Commonwealth First Book Award and DSC Prize (2013). A Matter of Taste: The Penguin Book of Indian Writing on Food and The Hundred Names of Darkness are her other published books. Roy is known for her terrific interactions in twitter through her sharp replies, versatility and high opinion. She is also a contributing opinion writer for the International New York Times. She is married to Devangshu Datta, contributing editor of Business Standard and the couple is currently settled in Delhi.

 

She was born in Kolkata in1971 and completed her graduation at St. Stephen's College, Delhi. Roy is married to Devangshu Datta and together they have contributed several books. Nilanjana authored the award winning book - The Wildings in 2012. She is also quite engaged in social networking sites and active in twitter with many followers. She has contributed over 15 years to media and publishing sector and regularly writes columns in Business Standard, during this long period. Her column on the reading life is indeed popular over the years.

 

She has also served as the chief editor at Westland and Tranquebar, apart from serving as an editor and columnist for Outlook Books, Biblio and many other literal magazines – online and offline.  She has also served as the jury for the Crossword Prize and the DSC Prize. Her works on fiction and journalism have appeared in several journals and anthologies including her contributions on gender issues to the International Herald Tribune.
