Neyveli Santhanagopalan Biography

Neyveli Santhanagopalan is a senior Carnatic vocalist and composer from Tamil Nadu, also known as a renowned teacher. He is a pioneer of rendering ragas and swaras in its purest form and he currently anchors the musical show, "Sa Ri Ga Ma Pa" for Jaya TV. Known for his contributions to Carnatic musicology he is also proficient in the Indian veena and percussion instruments. He is a recipient of the Vani Kala Sudhakara of the Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha and Vidhya Tapasvi title from TAPAS Cultural Foundation in 2008. As a philanthropist he is known for conducting music shows in US to accumulate cash for Tsunami fund in 2005. He is one of the comparatively young, yet versatile amongst Carnatic vocal musicians of today. He is an internationally acclaimed musician too.

 

He was born in 1963 in a family with music background. He has given several Veena concerts in India and abroad. He is known for his innovative projects such as Charangi’s Introducing Ragas through Pallavis. He is known for compositing many old classic works like Tiruppugazh and Thevaram and presented them in a better way. "e-Guru, Guru, and You-Guru" (2010) is one of the noted articles published by him, which tells the relationship between teacher and students.

 

He is known to portray a vivid, sometimes a subtly flashy image of even traditional raagas like Bhairavi, Thodi and Keeravani. He is an A-top graded artiste in both AIR and Doordarshan and is the recipient of several laurels, awards and titles. His compositions for the operatic Ramayana are really priceless. These compositions have been choreographed several times and have been staged across India as well as abroad.
