Neetu David Biography

Neetu David is an Indian cricketer who played as bowler for the India national women's cricket team. With 141 wickets, she is India's leading wicket taker of India’s international ODI matches. She is also the third highest wicket taker in Tests for team India, who plays a left-arm spinner for her team. One of the leading Indian female cricketers ever, she has captained many matches for India in both formats, and has retired from all forms of cricket in 2006. But she reversed that decision in 2008. She played her first test match in 1995 against New Zealand and has also led team India as captain for 38 international test matches. She has also served as a captain for team India in 43 ODIs.

 

Neetu David hails from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She was born on 1 September 1977. The left-arm spinner, also known as a Right-handed batswomen spent 11 years in international cricket before she took 172 wickets. She took 41 wickets from 10 test matches and 141 wickets from 97 ODIs. She made her test debut with New Zealand at Nelson, Feb 7-10, 1995 and played her Last Test against Australia at Adelaide, during Feb 18-20, 2006. Her ODI debut happened against New Zealand at Christchurch on Feb 12, 1995 and her Last ODI was played against England at Arundel.

 

David played cricket for a long time and announced her retirement from international cricket on June 4, 2006 during the Rani Jhansi first-class zonal tournament. Her best Test bowling figures of 9 for 90 is the world record for women's cricket. It was taken against England in Jamshedpur in 1995 soon after she made her international debut.
