Neeraj Chopra Biography

Neeraj Chopra is an Indian track & field athlete and sportsman associated with the sport, javelin throw. He created history by winning gold at both 2018 Asian games and 2018 Commonwealth Games. When he earned his first gold medal at Asian games, he created a new national record of 88.06 m. Neeraj has won many international championship since his younger days. He was the winner of 2016 IAAF World U20, and also set a junior world record of 86.48 m. He is the flag bearer at the opening ceremony for India at the ongoing Asian Games in August 2018, and it’s his first appearance too. Chopra won a gold medal in his first ever appearance in Asian Games, and broke his personal record too.

 

Neeraj Chopra was born on 24 December 1997 in Khandra village, Panipat, Haryana. He studied at DAV College, Chandigarh. Neeraj came to spotlight for the first time in 2016 soon after he won a gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games with a throw of 82.23 m. With this win he also equaled National record. He repeated success and won a gold again at 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz. He also set a junior world record in the same tournament, and the record is still to be broken.

 

2018 has been a good year to this young sportsman, and has been in tremendous form this season. He has consistently crossed the 85m mark throughout this season. He won the Federation Cup in March with 85.94m and also clinched gold in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games with a throw of 86.47m. He also made of 87.43 effort in Doha, 85.17 in France and 85.69 in Finland during his preparations for the Asian Games this year. In Asian games finals, he made 88.06 m which is his personal best and national record too.
