Neena Gupta Biography

Neena Gupta is a Hindi film actress and television actress. She is also known as a film maker. She has been a part of both main stream commercial cinema as well as parallel cinema and has worked with great directors like Shyam Benegal. She has been most active in cinema during 1980’s. She won the 1994 National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for Woh Chokri. Television quiz show, Kamzor Kadii Kaun made her a popular television host as well. She has also produced and directed a few television serials. Gul Gulshan Gulfaam (1988) is another noted work on Doordarshan. She has also worked in several international projects like Gandhi (1982), The Deceivers (1988), In Custody (1993), and Cotton Mary (1999). She has been news for her relationship with former West Indian cricketer Vivian Richards in the 1980s and a daughter was born in this relationship. Her daughter Masaba was raised as single mother kid by Neena.

Neena was born on 4 July 1959. She did her schooling from Lawrence School, Sanawar. She entered Bollywood with Yeh Nasdeekiyaan in the year 1982. Same year she appeared as Mahatma Gandhi’s niece in Academy award winning Hollywood movie, Gandhi. Later she appeared both in leading role as well as supporting roles in numerous movies and has also appeared in many songs as an item dancer in traditional style. Controversial song of Khalnayak, Choli ke peeche is one such. She has appeared in offbeat Hindi movies like Mandi, Utsav, Rihaae, Woh chokri, Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda and Saath saath. She also acted in comedy classic, Jaane bhi do yaarom.

She has also acted in Malayalam award winning movie, Vaasthuhaara. Kyun Hota Hai Pyarrr, Dil Se Diya Vachan, Ladies special, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Saat phere, Siski, Saans, Kitani mohabbat hai and Daane Anaar Ke are her reecnet television appearances.
