Neelanjana Biography

Neelanjana is a budding actress associated with Malayalam cinema, best known for playing a supporting role in Kamal’s Aami (2018) – a biopic on the celebrated writer Madhavi Kutty. She played the teenage role of Madhavi Kutty and shot to instant fame. Aangelina Abraham played the childhood role of the writer in the movie.

Her real name is Malavika, and she took the screen name of Neelanjana for her debut movie, Aami (2018) directed by acclaimed director Kamal. Malavika is quite a common name in the film industry and that’s why she took a new name. The new name was called by for the first time by film’s director on the pooja of the movie. Yet this actress is also known by the name, Aami in social media and among movie buffs, as she portrayed the teenager Aami.

Malavika hails from Kannur. Her father Vinod Kumar is a businessman, and her mother Praveena works as a college lecturer at Brunnan college of Thalassery. Her elder brother Pranav is studying mechanical engineering. She got settled with her family in Kerala just two years ago. The family lived in Qatar till then, where she was quite active in cultural events arranged by Malayali organizations. She gets good support from family to pursue a career in films.

Her mother got a casting call from a whatsapp group, and she sent Malavika’s photo without any expectation. So she was very much surprised when got selection letter through mail. After she got role, as a part of preparation of the role, she read a lot about the writer and tried to gather more information. It was her first experience to face camera and has not appeared in short films or ad films.
