Nazima Biography

Nazima is a former Bollywood actress best known for supporting roles of a younger sister or heroine’s friend. Nazima had done so many sister roles in her short career that she was called the Resident Sister. She died at a very young age of only 27 in 1975. She was struggling with cancer. Her last films Ranga Khush, Love and God and Sanyasi got released after her death. 1972 film Beimaan earned her a Filmfare nomination for best supporting actress. She portrayed the role of Manoj Kumar's sister in this movie. Rajendra Kumar’s sister in blockbuster hit – Arzoo (1965) is another noted sister role in her career. "E kash kisi diwaneko hum se bhi muhabat ho jaye - Aaye din Baharke" and "Hum baheno ke liye mere bhaiy - Anjana" are the beautiful songs pictured on her.

 

Nazima was born in Nashik, Maharashtra in 1948. She started her career as a child artiste with the screen name 'Baby Chand'. Devdas,Ganga jamuna and Hum panchi ek daal ke are among those noted appearances. In 1965 she played lead role opposite Sanjeev Kumar in Nishaan. Later she appeared in supporting roles in Ziddi, Gazhal, Tower house,Doli, Anjaana, Abhinetri, Adhikaar, Mere bhayya, Do yaar, Arzoo, Fariyaad, April Fool, Albeli, Sanyasi, Raja Aur Runk, Aaye din bahaar ke, Manchali, Amir garib etc and got type casted as a ‘sister’. Perhaps she is the most successful actress of Bollywood in the 1960s for portraying younger sister’s role.

 

Her innocent looks have always received appreciation in the role of a good sister and audience loved her to see as a ‘little sister’ too. She played lead heroine in less noticed movie, Dayar-e-Madina released in 1975. She passed away the same year and many of her movies were released posthumously.
