Navin Nischal Biography

Navin Nischal was a popular actor of Bollywood during 70’s and a television actor during 90’s. He was the leading hero of many successful movies like Sawan Bado with Rekha, Victoria No.203 with Saira Banu, Dund with Zeenant Aman and Hasthe Zakhm with Priya Rajvansh. Other hit movies as hero are Budha mil gaya and Sansar. Later he concentrated to character roles and Indian television and has become a part of successful comic serials of Doordarshan like Dekh Bhai Dekh. His successful Punjabi films are Aasra pyaar ka and Mahaul theek hai.

 

 

He was the first gold medalist from Film and Television Institute of India. Yet he starved to get good roles in Bollywood, the time when Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna were ruling at the top. Yet in the few roles offered to him, he has given simply the best. He is also known for the finest songs pictured on him like Tum jo mil gaye and Betaab dil ki of Madan Mohan composition (Hasthe Zakhm), Raat kali of Buddha mil gaya,  and Ulchun sulchena of Dund (Though sung by Asha Bhosle). In Hasthe Zakhm Naveen did the role of a taxi driver, who drives Priya Rajvansh to her clients, but later falls in love with her. The movie ends with a tragic knot. In Dund, he did the role of Chandrasekhar who took revenge of Ranjith is an unsual manner, a movie with unusual twist in the climax.

 

 

He had witnessed with a few ups and downs in his relationships too and has been aligned with many ladies. His first marriage with Neela Kapoor broke when she found his relationship with Padmini Kapila. Neela Kapoor was the niece of Dev Anand. But the relationship didn’t sustain and Naveen started a relationship with Pimma, a married woman with two children. This relation also broke off and later he married Geetanjali, a divorcee. But due to the tense relationship that existed between these two, she suicide in 2006.

 

Among his notable works as character artist include Raju ban gaya gentleman, Himmat, Brahma, Guddu, Khosle ka ghosla, Rehna hai tere dil mein, Aasiq awara, Aashiq banaya aapne, Jung, Hidusthan ki kasam, Kauff and Major Saab. His last movie was ‘Break ke baad’. He died due to heart attack in 2011.
