Navin Chandar Biography

Navin Chandar, shortly called Navin in south Indian film industry is a young music composer. He composes music for Malayalam and Tamil films. He marked his debut with 2013 Tamil film, Kalyana Samayal Saadham and later worked in Tamil films, Oru Naal Iravil, Vil Ambu and Nibunan. He also composed music for Mohanlal starrer Malayalam film, Peruchazhi in 2014, and also Kannada film, Vismaya in 2017. He earlier worked as a flautist in the industry, before turning a music composer for films.

 

Navin Chandar is also known as S. Navin and simply Navin in the south Indian film industry. He started learning flute at the age of 5, and continued learning Carnatic and Western notes in flute. His neighbour N. Kesi was his first guru. He learnt Carnatic music from other acclaimed masters like T. V. Gopalakrishnan and K. V. Ramanujam. He was exposed to western style of flute at the age of 10. He used to participate in a lot of competitions during his college days and won a lot in the best instrumentalist category. In 2005, he worked as a flautist for A. R. Rahman, and has worked in "Luka Chupi" song in Rang De Basanti. Apart from Rahman, he has also been associated with top south Indian composers - Harris Jayaraj, Vidyasagar, Dheena, Joshua Sridhar, Yuvan and G. V. Prakash Kumar as a flautist for their recordings.

 

He got his first break as a music composer through 2013 hit film, Kalyana Samayal Saadham. His name was credited as Arrora in this film. Mella Sirithai, Pallu Pona Raja and Pallu Pona Raja are some of the popular songs of the album. Film actor Prasanna had sung the song "Pallu Pona Raja" with lyrics penned by Srikanth. The following year he marked his Malayalam film debut through Peruchazhi. His name was credited as Naveen "Arrora" Iyer. He composed the film's original soundtrack and background score. Po Mone Dinesha and Enthi Cheiyyan were the popular tracks. After an impressive debut in Malayalam cinema, he continued with Tamil films composing music for Oru Naal Iravil, Vil Ambu and Nibunan.
