Nasir Hussain Biography

Nasir Hussain was one of the leading directors of Bollywood during 60’s and 70’s. He is the brother of film producer Tahir Hussain. Thus he is the uncle of actors – Aamir Khan and Faisal Khan of Bollywood. He is the grandfather of actor Imran Khan. As a director/producer his big movies are Caravan, Teesri Manzil and Pyar ka mausam and all this movies, Asha Parekh was the leading actress. Credit of big hits of Asha in her career definitely goes to this director. It was rumoured about the love relationship between Asha and Nasir though he was a married man and Asha remains unmarried till now. She has also played leading actress in his movies like – Love in Tokyo, Dil dekhe dekho, Jab pyar kise se hota hai, Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon and Ziddi.  

 

His movies were also popular for its music score and its credits fully go to R.D. Burman. Since R.D. Burman’s debut movie, he composed music to Hussain’s movies for 19 years, last one being Zabardast released in the year 1986. The major hits of R.D too contain Hussain’s movies a lot. During middle 80’s his movies began to flop and hence his son Mansoor Khan take over his works. Major hits of Aamir Khan during the early stage of his career were directed by Mansoor khan and Nasir Hussain wrote dialogues and scripts for those movies - QSQT and Jo jeeta wohi sikander. Actually it was Nasir who launched Aamir, his nephew in Qayamat se qayamat tak. For the screenplay of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak he won Filmfare awards. He has won best film award at Filmfare for Jo jeeta wohi sikander too.  

 

Hussain started his career as a writer in Bollywood in the year 1948. For Filmistan studio, he wrote Anarkali (1953), Munimji (1955), and Paying Guest (1957). As a director he debut in the year 1959 with the movie – Tumsa nahin dekha. The leading actor was Shammi Kapoor and in his second movie too, he casted Shammi as leading hero – Dil dekhe dekho, the first time when he worked with Asha Parekh and it was again a musical hit. He has produced and directed movies in Bollywood. His movie, Teesri Manzil was directed by Vijay Anand. After that he began to be counted among the list of top film makers who delivered silver jubilee hits to Bollywood. Nasir Hussain died in Mumbai on 13 March 2002 following a heart attack.
