Naseeruddin Shah Biography

Naseeruddin Shah is one among the most gifted actors of Bollywood who has valuable contributions to commercial as well as parallel movies and theatre world. Naseeruddin Shah is noted for his talents, versatility and flexibility by which he portrays the roles given to him. He has proved himself several times to be a successful hero, supporting actor, villain and a comedian and that he can handle easily, both commercial and art movies. He has not type-casted himself to a particular role or character and that’s the reason why he has reached a position that only a few talented actors can reach. His deep knowledge in theatre acting has helped him a lot in his acting career.

 

Naseeruddin Shah started his acting career through Nishabd and most of his movies included either Shabana Azmi or Smita Patel. In Masoom he portrayed the frustrations faced by a husband when his wife Shabana Azmi understands about his relationship with another lady and when the son born out of wed lock comes in search of his father. In Izzazzat, his mind swings between two ladies Rekha and Anuradha Patel. He did a wonderful performance as a comic actor in master piece – Jaane bhi do yaaro. He did such comedy elements in block buster Jaane tu ya jaane naa, where he did the role of a husband who always quarrel with his wife even after death. Surprisingly this role was played by his real life wife, Ratna Patak –a theatre actress and a successful Bollywood actress.

 

He has given significant contributions to Indian cinema through the movies – Manthan, Bhumika, Albert Pinto ko gussa kyon aatha hai, Aakrosh, Sparsh, Junoon, Baazar, Umrao Jaan, Hum paanch, Chakra, Paal, Krish, Paheli, Who Saat din, Viswatma, Tridev, Kabhi na kabhi, Karma, Krishh, Chamatkaar, Mohra, Sarfarosh, Mein hoon naa, Jaane tu ya jaane naa, China gate, Chahat, Iqbal, Hey Ram, A Wednesday, The dirty picture, Ishquiya, 7 Khoon maaf and Rajneethi.

 

As a villain, he has become successful in movies like Krishh, Mohra, Chahat and Sarfarosh in the recent times; he won Filmfare all these movies too. He has won National film awards twice for best actor – Sparsh and Paar and for supporting actor – Iqbal.  He won Filmfare best actor award thrice for Masoom, Chakra and Akrosh and supporting actor awards for Sir and Najayaz.  He has directed one movie too – Yun hota tho kya hota in 2006.
