Narendra Prasad Biography

Narendra Prasad was one of the most talented actors of Mollywood during 1990’s, most popular for character roles. He has played the role of a powerful villain as well as a commanding landlord or father. He has been one of the great names of Malayalam film industry and his unexpected departure at the age of 57 left a void that has never been filled yet. He is most popular for the roles in Aniyan bava chettan bava, Ammayane satyam, Paithrikam, Aaram thampuran, Vazhunoor, Malappuram Haji Mahanaya Joji, Ooty pattanam, Pandu pandoru raajakumari, Thalastaanam, Adwaitham, FIR, Mangalam Veettil Manaseswari Gupta, Aalancheri thambrakkal, Ustaad, CID Unnikrishnan B.A., B.Ed, Sukrutham, Pavithram, Ekalavyan, Meleparambil Aanveedu and Kottaram Veettile Apputtan. He received Kerala state awards for best actor for the movie – Paithrikam in the year 1993. Though known for supreme power and serious roles, through the comic blockbuster, Meleparambil Aanveedu, he proved that he is equally verse in handling comic roles also.

 

Apart from being a popular actor, he was also known as playwright, director, teacher and literary critic. Born in Mavelikkara of Alapuzha district, his schooling was completed in his home town itself. He took B.Sc in mathematics from N. S. S. College, Pandalam. Later he took MA in English literature from University of Kerala. He used to take part in the Malayalam and English literary discussions, debates and competitions and has won many state level competitions as well. His play Souparnika won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1985.

 

He started his career as a college teacher. Starting his career from Bishop Moore College in 1967 he has worked in Govt. Victoria College, Palakkad, Govt. Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram and University College, Thiruvananthapuram. In 1989, he was selected for the prestigious post of Director, School of Letters of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, a  post that he held till his demise. Prasad’s love of theatre prompted him to create "Natyagriham", a drama troupe during 1980’s. 'Bharat' Murali, Kaithapram Damodaran Nambudiri, Gopakumar and Rashid have been a part of his troupe.
