Nandita Iyer Biography

Nandita Iyer is a medical doctor from Bangalore, Karnataka with specialization in nutrition and food. But she is best known as a nutrition columnist and a food blogger, one of the most successful bloggers from India. She has numerous twitter followers as well. She is also a great singer and frequently tweets on music and food. ‘Saffron trial’ is her popular food and nutrition blog, loved by many. She shares her recipes and nutrition tips through ‘Saffron trial’ since 2006. Her columns appear in Men’s health, BBC Good Food, Yowoto, DNA, Mint, Femina etc.

She is a Tamilian, married to an ultra-marathoner and has one child. She started her experiments with cooking in 2006, while staying at a one-horse-town of US and watching Food Network. She found the need to record her recipes if her experiments turn positive and that’s how she started her positing on her blog. She was even unknown to the terms like ‘food Blogger’ then. She just recorded the recipes in her blog to make them again. She sticks on to healthy vegetarian cooking, with a less amount of butter and oil, giving a healthy recipe. Later when she moved to Bangalore she started growing some herbs and vegetables in her terrace kitchen garden. As soon as she reached India, the first thing she did was to buy an oven.

She hardly entered kitchen during her younger days. She started cooking only after her medical internship in a rural area. From there on, there has been a great transition to a passionate food blogger. She regularly writes columns on nutrition and healthy recipes in magazines and websites. “Is your health food healthy?” on Men’s Health was a popular column. Later she started writing for BBC Good Food, India and interviewed the owners of a local French style restaurant to publish as an article.
