Nandha Periyasamy Biography

Nandha Periyasamy is a Tamil film director and character artist. In a career spanning to more than a decade, he has directed 4 movies - Oru Kalluriyin Kathai (2005), Maathi Yosi (2010), Azhagan Azhagi (2013) and the recent, Vanna Jigina (2015) starring Vijay Vasanth and Sanyathara. Mayandi Kudumbathar (2009), Yogi (2009), Milaga (2010), Goripalayam (2010), Raa Raa (2011) and Azhagan Azhagi (2013) are his noted performances as an actor.

Nandha Periyasamy is a resident of Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He started his film career as an assistant director working under different directors. In those days, he shared room with film director N. Lingusamy and two used to exchange film ideas and narrate film scripts. Thus he got his first film break in 2002 for producer S. S. Chakravarthy, who wanted to make a police thriller with Ajith. The movie was titled Mahaa and the film shooting was also started. However the flop of Ajith’s Red prompted the producer to shelve the movie.

In 2005 his first movie as an independent director was released. The movie was titled - Oru Kalluriyin Kathai starring Arya and Sonia Agarwal in lead roles. The movie was a box office hit and was included among the top 10 movies of the year by Deepam TV. But later Maathi Yosi (2010) received negative response from critics. In between he worked for Ardhanari starring Karan in the lead role of a transgender. But the movie got shelved.

Just before the release of Maathi Yosi, he made his acting debut through Mayandi Kudumbathar (2009) as Chinna Virumaandi, where he was noted for his acting skills. This prompted him to accept more acting roles. Through his latest release Vanna Jigina (2015) as a director, though he improved a lot in direction field, he was criticized by The Hindu for the theme of portraying people with dark skin tones as inferior.
