Nandha Durairaj Biography

Nandha Durairaj is a popular actor associated with Tamil cinema. Started off with a supporting role in Suriya starrer Mounam Pesiyadhe in 2002, he got his first big break through - S. Shankar's Eeram released in 2009, where he played antagonist’s role. His outstanding performance for the film earned him a nomination at Vijay Film Awards for Best Villain. Govind Sendrampalayam Durairaj is his real name. He debut big screen using the screen name, Nandha.

 

Born as Govind Sendrampalayam Durairaj in Coimbatore to Durairaj and Rani, he is the grandson of famous politician cum Minister M. Kannappan who has served as the Union minister for Non-conventional energy sources in A. B. Vajpayee's NDA rule. He was spotted by film producer and distributor S. Thanu in a family function. Thanu asked Nandha to take an acting course and thus he joined the Film Institute in Chennai with S. Thanu's help in the year 1998. He did a one-year course at the Film Institute and made his debut in 2002 movie, Mounam Pesiyadhe directed by Ameer, who was in search of a co-star with Suriya. Thus the movie marked successful beginning of his film journey.

 

Nandha later appeared in many movies like Punnagai Poove, Kodambakkam, Selvam, Agaram, Aanivaer, Urchagam etc where he played the male lead. Punnagai Poove was his first movie as a lead hero which miserably failed at box office. Rekha Vedavyas played his lead heroine. One after the other, all his movies flopped at box office. In 2009 Tamil romantic-thriller Earam - written and directed by newcomer Arivazhagan Venkatachalam happened and Nandha was offered the male antagonist which he accepted. The film turned to be the major success of Nandha’s career.

 

In 2010, his movie, Vandhaan Vendraan in lead role also failed at box office. Vellore Maavattam, Athithi and Katham Katham are among his movies in lead roles which received negative reviews from critics. Adhibar and Anandhapurathu Veedu are his other releases. His upcoming flick - Puthiya Thiruppangal deals with the subject of child trafficking and he plays the male lead.
