Nana Patekar Biography

Nana Patekar is an Indian actor who is known for his unique acting style. He was born on 1st January 1951 in Murud Janjira in Maharashtra. His birth name was Vishwanath Patekar. His parents are Dinkar Patekar and Sanjana Patekar. His father is a painter. He studied at Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art in Mumbai. He married Neelakanti Patekar and has one son named Malhar Patekar. They are now divorced.

 

His debut film was Gaman and he acted in the role of Vasu in this film. His way of uttering dialogues attracts everyone. He is not only an actor but also a sketch artist. He has helped the Mumbai police with his sketches. This is a secret not known to many people. He acted in the villain role in the film Parinda in 1989 and he was noticed by many producers when he gave fantastic performance in the films Mohre in 1987 and Salaam Bombay in 1988.

 

He acted in the role of police officer in the film Ab Tak Chappan in 2005. He experimented with many roles and he performed the role of dumb and deaf father in the film Khamoshi: The Musical. He acted as a man affected by schizophrenia in the film Wajood in 1998. He is well suited for the role of angry young man.

 

Some of the films that he has acted include Gaman, Aaj Ki awaaz, Ankush, Sutradhaar, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Yeshwant, Wajood, Hu Tu Tu, Gang, Welcome, Yatra, The Phool, Bommalattam, Raajneeti, Shagird, It’s My Life, etc. He directed the film Prahaar: The Final Attack in 1991.

 

He has obtained National Film Award for Best Actor for the film Krativeer in 1995, National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film Parinda in 1990 and Agni Sakshi in 1997. He has received Filmfare Best Actor Award for the film Krantiveer, Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Parinda in 1990, Filmfare Best Villain Award for the films Angaar in 1992 and Aphaharan in 2008. He also has won Star Screen Award for Best Actor and Best Villain and many other awards.
