Nachiketa Ghosh Biography
Nachiketa Ghosh was an acclaimed music director who composed songs belonging to Bengali, Hindi, and Oriya languages. He gave a new dimension to the Bengali music and was also regarded as a versatile singer of the industry. He has released 5 gramophone records as a singer. Nachiketa Ghosh was married to Sibani Dutta and the couple had three kids, two daughters and one son, Suparna Kanti Ghosh who is a noted music composer of Bengali film industry. His noted works were with famous lyricists like Gouri Prasanna Majumdar, Mukul Dutta, Shyamal Gupta, Pulak Bandyopadhyay, Pabitra Mitra and Shibdas Bandyopadhyay.
Ghosh was born in 1925 to Dr. Sanat Kumar Ghosh, an eminent physician of Kolkata. Nachiketa passed out from R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, University of Calcutta with MBBS. But he never took medicine as his profession. Every Sunday, eminent musicians like Kamal Dasgupta and Kana Satkari used to gather in the Shyambazar house of Dr. Sanat Kumar Ghosh and it gave Nachiketa exposure to music. He has also accompanied many of them as a Tabla player during his childhood. By the age of 24, he became a promising music director of Bengali film industry.
The musical journey of Nachiketa Ghosh started during his college days. The film "Boudir Bon", released in 1953 marked his debut as a music director. Thus he became a part of golden era of music and movies and got chance to work with many prominent figures of the film industry then. Lata Mangeshkar sang a Bengali song for the first time for Ghosh. The movie was Ardhangini. He used Rafi’s voice for a modern Hindi song in a Bengali movie called Indrani. "Moinar Ma Moinamoti" and “Hattimatim Tim" are evergreen songs of Bengali.
