N. Maharajan Biography

N. Maharajan is a film director associated with Tamil and Bollywood films. He marked his directorial debut in 2000 with the super hit film, Vallarasu. He worked as a screenwriter in the 1990s. Vallarasu, Anjaneya and Arasatchi are some of the Tamil films which he directed. He scripted Sunny Deol starrer Bollywood flick, Zor in 1998, and also directed him in 2001 Hindi film, Indian. Anjaneya (2003) starring Ajith Kumar and Meera Jasmine opened to mixed reviews and was declared a box office flop. His debut Bollywood flick - Indian was a remake of his debut Tamil film, Vallarasu and it fared well at box office.

 

Maharajan started his film journey as a screenwriter in the 1990s. In 1998, he co-scripted the Bollywood film, Zor directed by Sangeeth Sivan. The movie starring Sunny Deol and Sushmita Sen fared average at box office. He made his directorial debut with Vallarasu in year 2000 starring Vijayakanth. The movie also starred Devayani, Raghuvaran, Livingston, Vadivelu, Karan and Darshan in pivot roles. This action film opened to positive reviews and was a huge hit. It prompted the director to remake the same film in Bollywood starring Sunny Deol.

 

Maharajan is mostly associated with action flick entertainers. Soon after his debut film, he started working on the project, Narasimha teaming up once again with Vijayakanth. But later the movie got shelved, and he released Indian in 2001. Maharajan announced his next project Arasatchi with Arjun playing the lead role. Lara Dutta marked her Tamil debut with this film. The movie was completed in 2003, but its release got delayed due to financial troubles. Before that Anjaneya got released. It was Ajith’s first film in the role of a police officer. However audience didn’t accept this film.
