Mysskin Biography

Mysskin is a popular Tamil film director, singer and actor who debut film direction with the movie, Chithiram Pesuthadi with two Malayalam actors - Narain and Bhavana, marking their Tamil debut. His second movie ‘Anjathe’ received nomination for best director both at Filmfare and Vijay awards. Anjathe, Nandalala and Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum are other noted works as a film director.

He has proved himself to be a brilliant actor too. Till now he acted in two movies, directed by him. He portrayed the lead role of a mentally challenged person in his own directorial venture, Nandalala for which he earned a nomination of Vijay Award for Best Debut Actor. Most recently he played the role of a killer seeking redemption in "Onaiyum Aatukuttiyum" for which he received People's choice award at the Norway Film Festival 2013. He has also rendered his voice as a playback singer for Tamil movies.

His real name is Shanmugha Raja born on September 20, 1971. He derived his screen name from Dostoevsky's novel The Idiot – the name of its hero, Prince Myshkin. While he was working in a book store, Tamil film director Kathir asked him to join as an assistant. However nothing happened and after 8 months, he joined director Vincent Selva. Chithiram Pesuthadi in 2006 marked his debut as a film director. It marked the beginning of Malayalam actors, Narain and Bhavana in Tamil film industry and the movie was a commercial hit.

Anjathe was his next project released two years later which proved to be a blockbuster and he received many nominations for his brilliance in direction too. The movie starred Narain, Prasanna, Ajmal Ameer and Vijayalakshmi in lead roles. This single movie placed him among the list of established young directors of Tamil cinema. With his third movie, Nandalala he proved himself to be an excellent actor too.
