Murali Biography

Murali was an Indian actor, television presenter and writer and he has close associations with the Communist Party of India. He has acted in Malayalam and Tamil films. He acted as a communist freedom fighter in the film Neythukaran in 2002 and he got National Award for Best Actor for this role.

 

He was born on 25th May 1954 in Kudavattoor in Kollam in Kerala State. His parents are P. Krishna Pillai and K. Devaki Amma. He studied at Kudavattoor L. P. School and Thrikannamangalam S. K. V. High School. He finished his intermediate at M. G. College at Thiruvananthapuram and got his degree from Devaswom Board College at Sasthamkotta. He was actively participating as the member of the Students Federation of India. He obtained LL.B. degree from Thiruvananthapuram Law Academy. After finishing his course, he worked in the Department of Health of Government of Kerala as a clerk.

 

He married Mini and has one daughter Karthika. His debut film in the lead role was Njattadi by Bharath Gopi and this film was never released. He then acted in Chidambaram directed by Aravindan. He acted in the films Meenamasathile Sooryan and Panchagni. He had acted in a variety of roles from lead role to villain role.

 

He acted in the longest TV commercial for Air Deccan in 2005. He was also a good stage actor. He had acted in the stage plays like Natyagriham, Lanka Lakshmi, etc. He had written five books and his book Abhinethavum Asante Kavithayum won him Sangeetha Nataka Academy award. His book Abhinyathinte Rasathanthram was much welcomed.

 

He contested in the 1999 Lok Sabha election as a Left Democratic Front candidate from the Alappuzha constituency and lost. He got many awards like National Film Awards, Kerala State Film Best Actor Award, Filmfare Best Actor Award for his film Neythukaaran. He got Kerala State Film Awards in the Best Actor category for his other films like Aadhaaram, Kaanakkinavu, Thalolam, and in the Second Best Actor category for the films Veeralipattu and Pranayakalam. He died on 6th August 2009 at Thiruvananthapuram.
