Munnawar Masoom Biography

Munnawar Masoom is an Indian singer who performs qawwali and ghazals. He is also a musician who plays musical instruments like harmonium and tabla, a part of his performances. He has also been associated with a few Bollywood films as a playback singer, performing qawwali. "Murshid Khele Holi" of 2013 hit film, D-day is one among his memorable Bollywood songs, he sang aside Javed Ali, Shankar Mahadevan, and others. Its music was composed by the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Munnawar Masoom is quite regular with his music concerts and has performed for Doordarshan. He has been honoured with Fakr-e-Madhya Pradesh by Government of Madhya Pradesh.

 

Munnawar Masoom was born in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. As a qawwali singer he shot to fame with the popular song, Husne Muhabbat ka ada. His intense, powerful and energetic style make him a popular artist of present times. He is best known for singing the songs originally written and composed by Amir Khusrow. He also performs on the songs written by Hazrat Amir Khusro and Sufi Kalam. As a performer, he has performed aside Kailash Kher, Javed Ali and many of his contemporaries in the recent times.

 

The renowned musician also performs Sufi and Ghazal, in addition to Qawwali. He is quite regular with his musical concerts in different music festivals across India. He has performed for Pandit Motiram Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroh organised by Pandit Jasraj. He rarely sings for Bollywood. D-day is one such rare occasion when he sang for one song composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio. He has also penned lyrics for 1988 Hindi movie, Jeevan Sathi.
