Muhammad Ahmad Said Khan Chhatari Biography

Muhammad Ahmad Said Khan Chhatari was Governor of the United Provinces, who later served as the Chief Minister of United Provinces during 3 April 1937-16 July 1937 as an independent candidate, just before Indian National Congress politician, Govind Ballabh Pant came into power, and retained his power for next two elections. President of the Executive Council of the Nizam of Hyderabad, literally Prime Minister of Hyderabad and also Chief Scout of India. He was referred to as Nawab of Chhatari, during his rule in south India. He was associated with National Agriculturist Parties.

 

He was born on 12 December 1888 in Chhatari, North-Western Provinces. The place now belongs to Bulandshahr district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He attended the first Round Table Conference held in London in 1930. He served as a Minister in the Cabinet of the United Provinces during 1923-1926.In 1931, he returned to cabinet as agriculture minister, followed by acting Governor for some seven months in 1933. Nawab of Chhatari was the leader of the National Agriculturist Parties since it was formulated in 1937. He briefly served as a chief minister of United Provinces during 3 April 1937-16 July 1937. Thus he ruled Uttar Pradesh and the neighbouring regions for a short time, before state was formed.

 

A member of India's National Defence Council and President of the Hyderabad Executive Council are the elite posts he held later. He attended the third open session of the All-India Muslim League in 1936, presided by Jinnah in 1936. He was appointed President of the Executive Council of the Nizam of Hyderabad in 1941. After independence and Nawab rule was dismissed, he served as Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University during 1965 – 1982.
