Moushumi Chatterjee Biography

Moushumi Chatterjee is a successful actress of Bollywood during 70’s and 80’s.  She is not remembered for a glamorous face, contrast to other leading ladies of Bollywood. But through her unique acting skills and innocent looks, she has given a few memorable movies to Bollywood and film lovers still remember her for those roles. She has been successfully paired opposite leading actors as well as secondary actors of Bollywood during 70’s and 80’s. In most cases she has made a room of her on. She is married to Jayant Mukherji, son of music director and playback singer of yesterdays – Hemant Kumar.    

 

She has been paired opposite many heroes like Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Mehra, Vinod Khanna and Dharmendra. She is remembered most for her roles in Anuraag, Zindagi, Sab se bada rupayya, Anari, Pyasa sawan, Umar qaid, Angoor, Swarg narak, Manzil, Benaam, Justice Chaudary, Ghar ek mandir, Roti kapada aur makan and Balika Badu (debut movie). From 90’s onwards she has switched on to character roles as well. A few of the movies of this supporting character role include – Na tum jaano na hum, Zindagi rocks,Karthavya, Prateekhsha, Nischay, Hum kaun hai, Bollywood Hollywood, Sikka, aa ab laut chale, Ghayal, Jung baazi, Jallad, Sikka, Shehzaade,  Doli sajake rakhna and Keemat – they are back again. But nowadays she has disappeared from screen totally. Her other movies include – Aag hi aag, Daasi, Krodhi, Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan, Gowtham Govinda, Dil aur deewar, Param dharma and Vijay. During 70’s she appeared as a young girl while in movies of 1980’s, she was mostly casted as a married woman cladded in sari.  

 

She entered Bollywood through Balika Badu in the year 1967 in a less significant role. In 1969, she acted in the movie Parineeta too. But it was her movie Anuraag in 1972, that brought her a lot of fame and popularity. She did the role of a blind girl and her innocence was accepted by Indian audience. Then she began to do movies one after the other getting moderate success in Bollywood. In 1974, she was paired with Big B for the suspense thriller Benaam. In between, she has done a few Bengali movies as well.
