Mohan Raghavan Biography

Mohan Raghavan was a Malayalam film director and a serial director. His debut movie, T. D. Dasan Std. VI B (2010) earned him numerous awards and appreciation. He was also its screenwriter. However he passed away the following year, at the age of only 47 after a severe heart attack. He was one of the most promising new-generation filmmakers in Malayalam in the recent times, who had to face such a cruel set back!!! The movie earned numerous awards including - New York Indian Film Festival Award for Best Screenplay, Kerala State Film Award for Best Debut Director, John Abraham award for best director, Special Jury Award by World Malayali Council Awards, Kerala Film Critics Association Awards for Best Story and many more.

 

He was born in Annamanada, Thrissur in 1964. Raghavan had a rich theatre background. He studied at the School of Drama, Thrissur, and also completed Master’s in theatre arts from Kamaraj University. he also got opportunity to work with many leading names like - B.V. Karanth, Kavalam Narayana Panicker, S. Ramanujam, John Martin and Alakananda Samarth. Working under K.P. Kumaran, Siddique Shameer, and Salim Padiyath helped him to get good experience. He has also scripted a few movies like  ‘Kanmashi' and ‘Nammal Thammil’, apart from a few short films and television serials. He associated with television industry as a script writer in the late 1990s.

 

Raghavan's maiden film ‘T.D. Dasan Std. VI B' was well-received by the audience for its refreshing story and treatment. The movie was screened at the International Film Festival of Kerala, Chennai International Film Festival, Pune International Film Festival, and New York's Indian Film Festival.
