Mohan Choti Biography

Mohan Choti was a very popular comedy actor and character artist associated with Bollywood cinema in the 1950s and 1960s. He was known for slapstick comedy roles, and often type casted as a foolish fellow onscreen. He has been a part of several Bollywood classics of yesterdays, and he predominantly worked in the 1960s. He continued his work in the 1970s and later too, and was active still he passed away in 1992, aged 57.

 

Farz,  Mujhe Jeene Do, Bluff Master, Anpadh, Dil Tera Deewana, Chaaya, Pooja Ke Phool,Man Mauji, Do Raaste, Mr. X in Bombay, Khandaan, Bairaag, Amar Prem, Lal Bangla, Woh Kaun Thi etc are some of his noted appearances. His real name is Parasmal Bhansali, and he changed his name to Mohan Choti after his memorable role in Shammi Kapoor starrer, Bluff Master. He played a character with the same name in the film, and came to be known by that name after that. In a career spanning to exactly four decades from 1954 to 1994 (where a few of his films were released posthumously), he appeared in nearly 280 films.

 

Choti was born as Parasmal Bhansali in a rural village of Rajasthan, Ummedabad in Jalore district. Bhanmalji and Pabu Devi Bhansali were his parents. He started his film journey in the year 1954 with Bollywood classic hit, Jagruti starring Abhi Bhattacharya, Bipin Gupta etc, and was also seen in the classic hits of 1950s such as Devdas, Parivar, Musafir, Ab Dilli Door Nahin, Dhool Ka Phool, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Kaagaz Ke Phool etc, and became more regular in movies in the 1960s. However he got type casted as a comedian in most of his films. He often played innocent guy/boy roles onscreen.
