Mohan Bhagwat Biography

Mohan Bhagwat (Mohan Madhukar Bhagwat) is the Sarsanghchalak of Rastriya Swaym Sevak Sangh (RSS). Mohan Bhagwat was born in a Maharastriyan town called Chandrapur of India in the year 1950. Mohan Bhagwat is a Hindu Brahmin by birth and he comes from a family of Rastriya Swayam Sevak workers. Father of Mohan Bhagwat Shri Madhukar Rao Bhagwat was also an active worker who worked as secretary for the Chandrapura area and later as a Prant Pracharak or divisional promoter for Gujarat state. Mohan Bhagwat is the eldest son of Shri Madhukar Rao Bhagwat having two younger brothers and one sister. 

Mohan Bhagwat attended 'Lokmanya Tilak Vidyalaya' and then went on to join Janata College for his graduation in Chandrapur. He finally graduated in Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry from the Punjabrao Krishi Vidyapeeth the Punjabrao Agriculture University in Akola. However he left out on his post graduation in Veterinary Sciences to join as a full-time worker of the Rastriya Swayam Sevak Sangh in 1975.

He had to live in exile during the Emergency period in India but at the end of emergency period Mohan Bhagwat was promoted to 'Pracharak' (A senior post in RSS) of Akola district of Maharashtra in the year 1977 and then he came into limelight rapidly in the organization and was made incharge of Nagpur and Vidarbha regions.

Later Mohan Bhagwat became 'Akhil Bharatiya Sharirik Pramukh, or in-charge of physical training at all India level. Mohan was further promoted in the year 1991 as in-charge of RSS volunteers. He was now giving his full time to organization.

In 2000,  K. S. Sudarshan was nominated as the new chief and Mohan Bhagwat became 'Sarkaryavaha,' (General Secretary) when the then chief stepped down from the post of chief of the organization.

Finally Mohan Bhagwat took over as  the Sarsanghchalak (Supreme Leader) of the RSS on 21 March 2009. Incidentally, he is one of the youngest leaders to head the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
